MSPI FOODS

My intentions for this blog are greater than my ability to actually stop and do.  Sorry again that it has been a while.

As promised, here is some of what I have been eating on the MSPI (Milk and Soy Protein Intolerance) diet.

Here is the grilled “cheese” that Jon made me the first day. It was actually pretty good. We got the tomato basil bread from Bluff View Bakery, a local bakery in Chattanooga, TN. He used earth balance buttery spread, cheddar rice cheese, and pepper jack rice cheese. Yum! I ate it with Lays potato chips.

CIMG3307CIMG3284VERY GOOD (Would eat it non MSPI diet)CIMG3299Very good substitute for butter. Can’t taste much difference from margarine at all!CIMG3296Cheese was one of my favorite things that I didn’t want to give up. This taste okay on things but I would never just get a slice and eat it like I would cheese before.

Here is another meal we ate. It was GOOOOOOOD!  Chicken and vegetable kabobs! I soaked the wooden skewers in water, sliced up chicken, zucchini, yellow squash, red, yellow, and orange bell peppers, and canned pineapple because last time I got a real one it was bitter. I tossed all that in a bowl (except the chicken) and put salt, pepper, and olive oil over it. All that was left was sticking it all on the skewers and grilling it on Jon’s new grill he got as an early birthday present! (His birthday is the 16th!) He tossed some grape tomatoes that we grew in our garden onto the grill too. I actually like grilled tomatoes!

CIMG3294Salad Dressing is a problem for MSPI eaters because they ALL seem to have soy and a lot have dairy. This dressing bought at Greenlife is very very good and completely Milk and Soy free!

Here are some of my favorite snacks:

CIMG3286 YUM!!!!!!!!!! This taste just like any semi-sweet chocolate!

CIMG3293This coconut bliss “icecream” is good but nothing like real icecream. But hey, beggars can’t be choosers!

CIMG3302This Chocolate Rice Dream Drink is very good. It taste just like a Yoo-hoo.

At the bottom of the page is the Sunkist gummies that are Soy and Milk free.

Here are some every day foods: Canola mayonnaise taste just like regular mayonnaise but it has a different texture. In my cheerios (the only MSPI cereal I have found), I like to mix UNSWEETENED Coconut Milk with Original Rice Milk. The Coconut Milk is not sweet and the Rice Milk is too sweet. Mixing the two comes close to regular milk when in cereal.

So these are a few of the things I have been eating. While I have been on this diet, Kaylee got worse so we decided to put her on Nutramigen formula. She seems to feel better but still has some blood in her stool. So I am staying on this diet, pumping, and waiting for tomorrow when we see the GI specialist. My diet may change from a Milk and Soy Free diet to something else come tomorrow, or I may be back on my regular diet and Kaylee on formula. We’ll see.

  1. Well, I'm glad you found some food that is at least halfway decent! I am just so HUNGRY when I nurse that I would go broke buying all that specialty food! (Plus the Nutramigen! Hopefully Amy can hook you up with some free stuff!!)

I'll be checking for updates from the GI doctor! :)

  2. Hi Katie- I found your blog through Meghan Appleberrys page. I remembered reading this a long time ago and wanted to come back to it because I just found out that my son has blood in his stool. He is almost 11 weeeks old and they just found it. I now have to cut out all dairy as you did and I was wondering if you have any more tips. I LIVE off of cheese and milk. I am really depressed not only because of that but that I have been hurting my baby and not knowing it. Are you still breastfeeding? I so do not want to put him on formula but I don't know if I can do this. Any words of encouragement?
