God isn’t surprised, shocked, or scared!

Our God is big and good! He knows the hairs on each one of our heads. He did form us in the womb after all. He loves, and cares for us deeply. How funny it is that we tend to forget this sometimes. I sure do. When Kaylee first started having belly troubles I was afraid. Afraid of what it might be. My worst fear was an allergy. I had read on Baby Center and various other baby sites about what to look for and how to treat allergies. I didn’t want Kaylee to be allergic for sure, but there was also a little bit of selfishness along with that wish. You see, I am breastfeeding and an allergy means altering MY diet. I didn’t want to give up cheese. (How Dumb!)

Like I said, Kaylee has been having belly troubles. She started out as the sweetest, most laid back baby in the world (She still is, but let me explain.) Slowly around three and a half weeks she started getting fussier. Not to the point to where she was inconsolable,  but she would make these deeply sad faces, curl her legs up, and she was starting to spit up more.  Once she even spit up so bad it went out of her crib and onto the floor. I guess you would call it vomiting. We called the doctor about this thinking it was reflux. The doctor told us to hold her upright for 30 min after each feeding and to elevate her bed. We did these things and lo and behold the spitting up got better. But Kaylee didn’t. She still was having belly trouble and it was getting worse. We started to notice her poop was starting to have mucus in it and then… I saw it.. Specks of blood.  The first time it was in the middle of the night, and I thought that maybe I had just imagined it, but then a few days later I saw it again and showed it to Jon. We both agreed that she needed to go to the doctor. It was a Saturday and we went and saw a very nice doctor that is in the sister practice to the one we go to. He told me to go off of egg, soy, nuts, and milk on a first 4 ingredient basis. So if those weren’t in the first four, I could eat it. We did this for a few days and Kaylee had a day where she seemed like it was working, but it was short lived. The day after she turned 6 weeks old we took her to get her shots and to talk about the belly troubles to her doctor. She took a look at her stool and said that I needed to go off Dairy (Milk Protein) and Soy and not just the first 4 ingredients, I needed to go “hard core”. I left with a list of ingredients to stay away from and the thought of WHAT CAN I EAT??? You see I already knew just about EVERYTHING has soy in it from my 5 day trial period, and a lot of things have milk. Did you know that even some gum has dairy in it? And lots have soy.

But like I said, God is good! He put us in a time when alternatives are available and near a grocery where we can get them. Last night, we took a little trip to Greenlife. We found all kinds of things that were Soy and Milk free! Look!

I am so excited about all of these things. What is most exciting is that if Kaylee’s allergies don’t go away (which please pray with us that they do!) I will be able to cook and make her things that are yummy that meet her needs.

So far I have tried the coconut milk, the rice milk, the earth balance “butter” , the local bread, the “ice cream”, the rice cheese, and the chocolate chips! They are all surprisingly good. Do they taste exactly like the originals, no, but will they help my baby girl feel better, hopefully!

I am going to start blogging some about these different products because when I Googled products that are dairy free and soy free, NOTHING came up. I could find some dairy free that would have soy, and some soy free that would have dairy, so I am hoping that the next person who is told this news can Google it and find our page.

Next post will be about the yummy Soy and Dairy free grilled cheese sandwich Jon made for me at lunch today. It was complete with Lay’s  plain potato chips! :)

God is good and He knows what is causing Kaylee’s belly to hurt. He can heal her and make her well. Please pray for that with us! We love the pieces out of her, but know the Lord loves her more!

Good Stuff

So it has been a while since I’ve blogged, but I have been busy with things that I will explain in my next post. This one, however, is all of the happy things that have been going on lately!

On the day Kaylee turned 5 weeks old, her friend Carson Blair Miles was born! She is just a doll and we all know her and Kaylee will be best of friends. We even have it set up to spend a whole day together once a week to play!  Her parents, Robert and Aston, are thrilled that she is here and have much better shots of her on their blog. We only wish we took as good of pictures as they do!

Kaylee has also enjoyed her first picnic at Renaissance Park with our friends Levi, Shellie, Matt, and Sarah. It was on that ridiculously cold for August day a while back. I wish I’d had a jacket, it was that cool! We had Kaylee all bundled up but unwrapped her for a few pictures.

She is looking more and more like her Daddy everyday! She has his baby blues (so far). Her dark hair is falling out and it looks like it might grow back blonde, we’ll see.

We love her so much and now we can’t imagine life with out her. She is a precious and perfect gift from God!

Kaylee is 1 month old and sleeping through the night!!!!!!

So last night might have been a one time thing, but Jon and I are super excited about it.  Yesterday I went shopping with my mom and Jon took care of Kaylee, feeding her two bottles. When I got back, I fed her at 10:00 and put her to bed. Jon was going to do the middle of the night feeding. I woke up at 5:00am in a good amount of pain and asked him had he fed her. He said no and we went to check her.  She was sleeping soundly!!!! I decided to go pump and got 4 1/2 oz from each side…. ouch!  She slept another hour and we fed her a bottle again.  Who ever thought! Sleeping through the night at 4 1/2 weeks!!!!!!!!!! WHoooo Hooo!!! Now lets hope it continues to happen!

5:21 Finished pumping.

Not Me Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

So we all have things that are a little (or a lot) embarrassing, but Not Me! I am the perfect first time mom!(NOT!) This picture was NOT taken weeks ago when Kaylee was not even a week old. It has NOT taken me this long to muster up the guts to “Not Me” about it. The memory blanket give away on MckMama’s blog did NOT have anything to do with me posting this un-embarrassing picture.

Here is the story:

When we were dismissed from the hospital with our first baby girl Kaylee Marie on a Friday, I was NOT worried about how to breastfeed and if everything would work out okay. I was totally cool with the fact that the Lactation Consultant at the hospital could not meet with me in the hospital due to a fall. I did NOT worry so much that I became engorged but experienced no let down due to my stress. Kaylee did NOT loose a full pound due to this and she was peeing and pooping just like all the Breastfeeding manuals said she needed to be. I did NOT have Jon, my husband, call the doctor on a Sunday to insist that someone see my baby NOW while I cried in the background.

When we got to the Dr.’s office I did NOT cry in front of the Doctor, that would be embarrassing and as I mentioned before.. that’s NOT ME! When she told me that my baby was okay and to pump into a bottle and give it to her after feeding her, I did NOT sigh in relief! She also did NOT tell my husband and I that the disposable diapers we were using were ultra absorbent and to leave them off so we could tell if she was going to the bathroom. Even if she had, us perfect first time parents would NOT have listened to this advice. That’s why when we got home we did NOT leave her diaper off and wrap her up in her kidapotamus blanket. Jon was NOT holding her after I just nursed her and decided to go to the bathroom. Just as I sat on the toilet I did NOT hear, “OOOOHHHHH MAN!!!!!!!!!!!! KAAAATIE……” My heart did NOT jump into my throat thinking something was awfully wrong. When Jon brought her to me I did NOT laugh and say we have to get a picture of this. When Jon brought the camera in and started to take a picture of the poopy mess she DID NOT START TO PEE ON ME!!!!! I would NEVER make a face like this when holding my four day old baby girl!

I am NOT secretly hoping no one but MckMama reads this so that I have a chance to win that blanket!!!! Here’s hoping!

Pictures of Kaylee

I am really grateful to our friends Robert Miles and Brandy Parker for taking some wonderful pictures of Kaylee! I can’t put up the ones Robert took in the hospital because they are on our broken computer. I need to get another monitor to hook up to it so I can get all my pictures off of it and onto this one! When I do, I will post them.

Here are the ones that Brandy, Jon, and I took the other day!
